The duration of a laser tattoo removal session is relatively brief, typically lasting between 90 seconds and 5 minutes depending on the size of the tattoo being treated. Prior to commencing the laser treatment, we will apply a cool compress to the tattoo area in order to numb the skin. The pain is relatively brief and is comparable to being smacked with a rubber band, and the healing thereafter is comparable to that of sun burn.
During the laser treatment itself, you may hear a rapid snapping sound as the laser beam is emitted and moves over the tattoo. As this happens, the ink will become white on the surface of your skin. This effect, commonly referred to as “snowing”, generally lasts for around ten minutes after the process has been completed and is the desired outcome when removing a tattoo.
Following the completion of the treatment, we will apply a topical cream to the treated area to “calm” the skin and ensure that it heals thoroughly for the best possible result. We will also provide aftercare instructions for healing the treated area after sessions. Sessions must take place a minimum of 6 weeks apart from each other, and each additional session is expected to be less painful as there will be less ink being broken down by the laser.
